Stefan Priesner has 28 years of experience with the United Nations, focusing on international development and management.
Prior to the current assignment, he served as United Nations Resident Coordinator for the Islamic Republic of Iran (2021-2025), United Nations Resident Coordinator for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam (2017-2021), and United Nations Resident Coordinator/United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative for the Republic of Uzbekistan (2013-2017).
Mr. Priesner also served as UNDP Country Director in the People’s Republic of Bangladesh (2008-2012). Prior to this, Mr. Priesner held several managerial positions with UNDP in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina (2004-2008), UNDP’s sub-regional resource facility (SURF) in South and West Asia in Nepal (2001-2004), as well as UNDP’s SURF covering the Caribbean in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (2001). Mr. Priesner started his United Nations career in 1997 with UNDP in Bhutan. Before joining UNDP, Mr. Priesner worked in the private sector.
Mr. Priesner holds a Master of Arts in International Relations from the Johns Hopkins University and a Master of Law from the University of Vienna.
He is married and has two children.
